This week on Car Talk, alas poor Yousef. His fiancee called him a sap after he fell for a recommendation that he use special ´´high mileage oil´´ in his Saturn. Will Tom and Ray be any more sympathetic, or will they try to sell him the Brooklyn Bridge? Elsewhere, Maggie´s hand-me-down Buick is shaking while climbing; Nick´s fuel pump is buzzing after the car is turned off; and Jason´s brakes are squealing--when he´s not stepping on them. Also, on Stump the Chumps, we find out if Tom and Ray correctly diagnosed Todd´s backfiring LTD, and got his neighbor and girlfriend to start speaking to him again. All this, plus a few classic Bulwer-Lytton Ccontest winners for bad fiction writing, and lots more, this week on Car Talk. [Broadcast Date: June 16, 2012] 1. Language: English. Now that the smoke had cleared, she saw that the bulge had burst open, and was hollow. Reams of tree sap dribbled from its fracture. She stared at it as piano music tiptoed up the hall - Maggie´s radio, no doubt - resonating eerily amidst the sterile walls. Thinking she heard the ghost-voice of Karen Carpenter - what were recordings if not the voices of ghosts? - she noticed something different about the willow tree. Something other than the weird bulge, now split open. It was an odd configuration of branches, some thick as a person´s arms, others thick as legs. Had those been there before? She was pretty sure they hadn´t. She noticed there were unusual masses of vegetation growing from them; in addition to strands of weeping willow leaves, there were flowers, ferns, lilies, mushroom stools - she knew they hadn´t been there. Taken together, the branches almost formed a human shape - with shaggy shoulders and a mane of green hair - in profile. But since when did trees grow.... Suddenly the shape turned its face to her, opening its eyes, and Tika shrieked. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Jennifer Swanepoel. Winter? Bleak. Frosty wind, earth as iron, water as stone, so the old song goes. The shortest days, the longest nights. The trees are bare and shivering. The summer´s leaves? Dead litter. The world shrinks; the sap sinks. But winter makes things visible. And if there´s ice, there´ll be fire. It´s the season that teaches us survival. Here comes Winter the second audiobook in Ali Smith´s shape-shifting quartet of stories. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Melody Grove. If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you! As she hunts for a drug lord killing her fellow witches, all Nessa Lansa´s instincts point to the Grizzly motorcycle club. Which makes Nessa´s plan to seduce and betray him all the more dangerous... Bear doesn´t trust the curvy, blue-eyed witch. But Nessa can heal the injuries that sap his strength. And since he can´t stop thinking of her lush body and teasing smile, her plan to mate him to reclaim her own power is highly tempting. Just one problem. His touch can heal or harm. His fate is solitary. His agony belongs to us all… He was born on a day of pain: November 22, 1963. He came of age in agony: that moment of tragedy when fun-loving rock-and-roll deejay Paul Handler discovered the inexplicable power in his own hands. It is the power to make the wounded whole again. The power to make the lame walk and to heal the sick. It is a power that will sap his soul and plunge him into the world of a famous faith healer. It is a power that can turn to rage, even murder. It is a gift that makes Paul Handler a living, breathing human sacrifice. For thousands of years, a secret cabal has guarded the lineage to which Paul is heir — scapegoats who have been forced to bear humanity´s anguish upon themselves. Now, while the cabal searches for him, and one man seeks to destroy him, Paul makes a lonely, frightening journey to the core of his identity and to his destiny … to all the pain his soul can bear, to all the redemption he can give, to the freedom that is death. Review Quotes ´´A wonderfully complex book which works on many levels; not only is it an entertaining read, it also makes insightful observations about everything from love and self-sacrifice to the living habits of your average bachelor deejay.” — Cemetery Dance "Enjoyable storytelling with a heart." — After Hours "A long, thoughtful examination of the corruption of power and the perversion of innocence, enlivened by first-rate characterization." — Science Fiction Chronicle "I can honestly say, without any reservation, that Deathgrip is the best novel I´ve read this year … full fruition of the promise shown in his earlier novels." — 2 A.M. 1. Sapere Aude! 1. Sprache: Deutsch.
